Wolfgang Nestler

Piloting in Windy Times

A sculptural field that stimulates

From October 25, 2019 to April 5, 2020 the Kunstraum Steffen Krüger in Berlin is showing works of the sculptor Wolfgang Nestler, in which a sculptural field from five decades stimulates the viewer. Viewers become actors experiencing sculpture as a variable system. “Here form is experienced in the process of becoming and as a form that works,” says Wolfgang Nestler. No evidence is presented – it is an offer to the active participation of the viewer; thereby the form reveals itself.

The exhibition of sculptural scenes is dedicated to Nestler’s friends: the couple Irmgard and Benno Rech and the poet Johannes Kühn. “We experienced how language meets images – the magic of sculpture and poetry,” as Wolfgang Nestler puts it. The title of the exhibition of plastic works was named by Johannes Kühn.

Material Commentaries
on the Language of Sculpture in the Works of Wolfgang Nestler

Nestler’s linear sculptures are almost disembodied. Insofar one might talk of “spatial graphics” (Heinz Fuchs). Sculpture and dance meet within a choreography opening up space.
